Labor market relevance study of Aviation Service Provider training program for the MBO Council

Together with vocational education institutions that offer the Aviation Services program, the MBO Council indicated that it wanted to conduct research among alumni of the program. The aim was to map out their position in the labor market and their economic independence. Some of the questions that were being asked were: what stage of their career are alumni at, where are they currently working, and what kind of contracts do alumni have? To get the right insights, the MBO Council approached Markteffect independent research agency Markteffect to do the research.

– Frank Rem, MBO Council

In order to assess the labor market position and economic independence of graduates of the Aviation Services program, a large-scale study was set up in collaboration with all vocational education institutions offering this program in the Netherlands. At the start of the study, the MBO Council set up a steering group consisting of employees from various MBO institutions. The questionnaire for the online survey was drawn up in collaboration with this steering group. It includes questions about the current career stage of alumni, the impact of COVID-19 on this, the extent to which they have found work in the field, and questions about the contracts and income of alumni.

In addition, alumni were asked to what extent the program had been important for both their personal and professional development, and they assessed various aspects of the program, such as its content and the internship.

Alumni of the Aviation Services program were invited by email to complete this questionnaire and thus provide insight into their labor market position and economic independence. A total of 514 alumni from nine different vocational education institutions participated in the survey.

When analyzing and reporting the results of the survey, a distinction was made based on how long ago alumni graduated. This made it possible to identify, among other things, the impact that COVID-19 has had on the careers of alumni who completed the Aviation Services program.

The main results of the study are presented in a comprehensive report that has been shared with the MBO Council and presented to all MBO institutions. In addition, MBO institutions have had the opportunity to purchase a report presenting the results of the study for the alumni of the specific MBO institution.

“It was a fun and interesting issue to work on as a researcher. In addition to providing insight into the current labor market position and economic independence of alumni, the research also identifies potential areas for improvement in the program that could strengthen it in the future. It's great to be able to help the MBO Council and the various MBO institutions with this."
