National Study Choice Survey

Education, the positioning of educational institutions, and the content of educational programs are changing rapidly. In addition, the behavior and perceptions of pupils and students are constantly changing. In this context, we conduct annual surveys in the field of education and study choice. The National Study Choice Survey was published in 2015, 2017, and 2020. We also regularly conduct research in the education sector, such as the multi-client survey we conducted among parents, counselors, and mentors in 2025.

These studies are always based on relevant topics that are important in education, such as study choice behavior, positioning, and parental involvement. Through our many years of collaboration with educational institutions, we have built strong relationships, enabling us to deliver customized solutions that are in line with practical realities. The insights gained from these studies yield concrete results: strategic tools that institutions can use to refine their policies, communications, and offerings.

Research into the study choice process

The world of education is constantly evolving, and the way in which prospective students orient themselves toward further education is constantly changing. It is therefore important for educational institutions to carefully consider how they appeal to their prospective students, but also where they do so and what that message should be.

The National Study Choice Survey provides insight into this study choice process. Among other things, we conduct research into the orientation phase in which someone finds themselves, why they choose a particular program, which factors play a role in this (choice factors), what information they are looking for, which sources they use for this (information needs), and who plays a role in this (role of the environment).

As a market research agency, we would like to join forces with the education sector to gain more insight into the study choice process. We believe it is important to ensure that you are provided with the best and most relevant insights. In this way, the insights serve as input for educational institutions to optimize their student recruitment strategy.

Responding to current events

The National Study Choice Survey provides insight into the orientation and selection process of prospective students. Since the last edition, there have been major social changes that may influence the way young people orient themselves toward their further education. These include increasing pressure to perform, concerns about the future viability of certain sectors, and the broader discussion surrounding mental health among young people.

There is considerable pressure to make the 'right' choice immediately, which also influences how young people orient themselves, who they involve in the process, and what sources they use. In the latest edition, we are conducting research into the current study choice behavior of pupils and students. This allows us to monitor trends and provide educational institutions with insights that enable them to tailor their information, offerings, and guidance to the wishes and needs of future students.

The kick-offs for the new study will start in September, and the fieldwork will take place in November/December. Would you like to know how participating in the National Study Choice Survey can help your organization? Feel free to contact us for more information and join this edition!
