Markteffect Meat Substitutes Monitor 2021: 3rd edition

Markteffect conducts extensive annual research into the popularity and sentiment surrounding meat substitutes. Similar to previous measurements, it is evident that a significant portion of Dutch citizens report having reduced their meat consumption. In the past 12 months, 36% of the Dutch population has reduced their meat intake or stopped entirely.

  • 61% of the Dutch population is conscious about their diet;
  • 48% of the Netherlands can be classified as flexitarians;
  • Eating less meat is important because it is better for nature and the environment;
  • Young people eat meat substitutes more often than older people.
