Insight into the student journey of new entrants, leavers, and loyal students for the University of Twente

Markteffect the University of Twente have been working closely together on multiple research projects for an extended period of time. Several studies were set up in 2020, repeated in 2022, and carried out again in an optimized form in 2024. This quantitative research focuses, among other things, on the orientation process and the experiences of first-year bachelor's students at the University of Twente, senior bachelor's students at the University of Twente, and bachelor's graduates who did not start a master's program at the University of Twente.

To gain valuable insights, the results were compared with the results from the 2022 survey. This provides the university with concrete tools to further optimize their strategy.

Our approach

Quantitative research in the form of online questionnaires was used to gain strategic insights. The three target groups mentioned above were surveyed using different questionnaires.

Online quantitative research was chosen in order to be able to make representative statements about the entire population and to easily monitor developments. The online questionnaire consisted of both closed and open questions. The open questions made it possible to delve deeper into the opinions of the respondents, providing a more detailed and nuanced picture of their satisfaction and expectations.

Results

Among other things, the study has provided valuable insights into the Net Promoter Score (NPS) of both current and former students. In addition, the study offers insight into the most important factors that play a role in choosing the University of Twente and both the strengths and areas for improvement of the university.

Furthermore, insight has been gained into the factors that play a role in the choice of study program and how the university can further strengthen its positioning. In addition, concrete recommendations have been made, for example regarding the provision of information about the master's programs and ensuring the quality of education.

The results and recommendations presented offer valuable tools for further optimizing both communication and the range of programs on offer.
