Only 5% of Dutch people never experience work pressure.

A packed schedule, a pile of unread emails, too many tasks at once and working days that fly by. Sound familiar? For many Dutch people, work pressure is part of the working week, as only 5% of Dutch people say they never experience work pressure.

This and more is revealed in the second edition of Markteffect's National Employee Satisfaction Survey.

How often do Dutch people experience work pressure?

Work pressure is a widely felt phenomenon. One in eight Dutch people (15%) rarely feel it. Just over a third of workers (34%) say they experience it occasionally. For a quarter of employees, work pressure is a recurring theme (24%). 15% experience it often and 7% feel the pressure too often as a constant factor in their working week.

Workload generally acceptable

Although the subject is widely discussed, a large majority of employees who experience work pressure still consider it to be manageable. For example, 19% say that the work pressure is completely acceptable and 52% find it more often acceptable than unacceptable. Nevertheless, almost a quarter of workers often find the pressure unacceptable and 6% constantly struggle with an overloaded schedule, tight deadlines and high expectations.

Too much work in too little time

What causes all this pressure? Approximately two in five workers who experience work pressure indicate that this is mainly because too many tasks have to be performed in too little time (39%). Other culprits are excessive expectations from managers and physical strain (9%). In addition, too much responsibility, tasks that take more time due to lack of experience, or vacancies that remain open for a long time also play a role (7%).
