Data protection within the market research industry
Within the industry, we adhere to and respect the Data Insights Network's "Golden Promises" with regard to data and insights. You can also view the full code of conduct here.
As a market research agency, Markteffect is affiliated with the industry organization MOA. MOA has established a code of conduct for data handling in research & statistics. Naturally, this code of conduct also serves as the guiding principle for Markteffect. These are the ten golden rules:
1. Inform the respondent about the purpose of the research;
2. Treat the respondent participating in the research with respect, even if he or she does not wish to participate. A refusal is a refusal;
3. Do not collect more data than is necessary for the conduct of the research;
4. Extra care is required when collecting and processing special data. This includes personal data concerning a person's religion or beliefs, race, political affiliation, health, sexual life, as well as personal data concerning trade union membership, criminal records, and personal data concerning unlawful or disruptive behavior in connection with an imposed ban as a result of that behavior;
5. Do not process data in an identifiable form for longer than is necessary for the conduct of the research. Anonymize as soon as possible;
6. Never report on individual respondents with identifiable data unless the respondent has given their unambiguous (=unequivocal) consent;
7. Take technical and organizational measures to protect the collected data against unlawful use;
8. If personal data obtained from the research is stored for longer than six months after acquisition, ensure that the client reports the processing to the Dutch Data Protection Authority in a timely manner;
9. Keep all personal data that is collected and processed confidential and only provide personal data to authorized officials;
10. If the respondent is irritated by an unannounced telephone survey, point out the possibility of blocking their personal data against such forms of research via www.onderzoekfilter.nl.

Basis for processing
Under the GDPR, there are grounds on which personal data may be processed. These grounds are when consent has been given, when it is necessary for the performance of a contract, when it is required by law, when it is necessary to protect vital interests, when it is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority, and finally when it is necessary to pursue a legitimate interest.
Based on a quote request, price inquiry, contact request, job application, download of an information resource, or purchase of a digital survey, it is necessary to store information to optimally support the user's information needs. Markteffect only processes personal data when there is a valid and obtained reason to do so.
Modification or Erasure of Personal Data
In compliance with Article 15 of the right of access under the General Data Protection Regulation, every user has the right to request and obtain access to the data that the organization has processed concerning the individual in question. The user also has the right to request the erasure of data from existing databases, where applicable.
